What is Dedicated Status
This means that you have completed the qualifying course (theory and practical shoot test) with SAHGCA, which is accredited with the SAPS (CFR) as a hunting association.
The advantage of obtaining this status is that you may apply for firearm licences under Section 16 of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000), which Section of the Act allows you to own more than 4 firearms or a semi–automatic rifle or shotgun; you may hold more than 200 rounds of ammunition per firearm which is licensed in your name (for the clay target shooting enthusiast this is important as it is for the wingshooter – as it is for the enthusiastic semi-auto rifle sports-shooter). You may also hold more than 2,400 primers per licensed firearm.
Dedicated Hunter Status gives you a little higher status when you apply for a firearms licence, as the status denotes that you are a dedicated firearms user and that you probably are better with safety and handling of the firearm - also that you can act safely with a firearm in the presence of others. Different associations have different criteria to award their members this status, which all conform to the prescripts of the Act and its Regulations.
